Standardized assessment procedures are not effective for students with significant cognitive disabilities, including deafblindness, as they highlight the student’s deficits rather than his or her strengths.  In Jan VanDijk’s approach to assessment, participants will learn to identify each child’s unique capacity to notice, interact with, and make sense of the environment and the people within it.
